San Jose: Treatment begins Oct. 1 after Oriental Fruit Fly found - San Jose Mercury News

SAN JOSE -- Oriental fruit flies have been found in the San Jose area, county officials announced Thursday, prompting immediate eradication efforts. Two flies were recently trapped in neighborhoods along Westmont Avenue north of Highway 85 and along Karl Avenue, west of Vasona Lake, county officials said in a news release. Officials said state protocol authorizes officials to immediately begin planning to kill off the flies. The treatment involves using ground-based, spot applications of an insecticide that will lure the flies to a trap and kill them. Courtesy California Department of Food & Agriculture -- This map depicts the areas of concern related to the discovery of an Oriental fruit fly infestation. Eradication efforts will commence Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015 using spot application of pesticides and a process of male fruit fly pheromone attractant, which attracts the male flies to a silver dollar-sized spot of the attractant, which the flies eat and die. The treatment area is bordered by Prospect Road and Hamilton Avenue to the north, San Tomas Expressway and White Oaks Road to the east, Los Gatos Boulevard and Wood Road to the south, and Fruitvale Avenue to the west. Each treatment will take two to three days to complete and will be repeated every two weeks for about eight weeks. According to officials, the Oriental fruit fly is an exotic insect found throughout much of southern Asia and is known to attack over 230 kinds of fruits and vegetables including citrus, stone fruits, apple, pear fruits, avocado and tomato. Female flies lay eggs inside fruits and vegetables. Once maggots develop and feed on the pulp, the fruit will decay and fall to the ground. Infestations often come from contraband fruit.

E-Do Model Sky Eye Twin FPV UAV 1890mm Wingspan ARF

()

Price: $317.94

There's a school of thought that places great value on function over form when it comes to aesthetics, and it has to be said that the Sky Eye Twin here would probably please that school immensely! However, what it lacks in terms of eye-candy, it more than compensates for in out-and-out practicality. With its 2 capacious, vertically stacked equipment bays, efficient twin motor layout, large (44dm2) shoulder mounted wing and simple boom mounted tail surfaces, the Sky Eye Twin Twin oozes functionality from every pore. The unique vertical equipment bay arrangement allows you to separate your video, FPV and avionics equipment from the battery compartment by housing all of the cameras and video transmission/recording equipment together with the R/C gear and any stabilization or autopilot you choose to fit in the upper section with its transparent plastic viewing dome, while the lower section has ample room for any batteries that you might foreseeably need to use, adding stability and keeping preventing them damaging your valuable electronics in the event of an unscheduled arrival. Both the twin motor layout and the low-slung, lightweight carbon fiber tail boom are well proven and highly practical arrangements for this type of model, particularly where operating conditions are not ideal, and the shoulder mounted wing makes launching the model a breeze too. Structurally, the Sky Eye Twin is familiar territory with carbon fiber reinforced EPO flying surfaces and EPO with a plywood sub-structure for the fuselage, making assembly quick and straightforward and requiring the minimum of tools. To finish the Sky Eye Twin, you'll need a minimum of 4 channel rc gear, 2 extra 9g servos if you want to use the optional flaps and a range of suitable adhesives. Please see the range of related items below for suggestions. For an unrivalled, practical FPV/UAV, the Sky Eye Twin is a hard act to follow. Features: ARF format with fast assembly Tough EPO/carbon fiber/ply construction Laser...

The House of Daniel

The House of Daniel

(Buy.com (dba Rakuten.com Shopping))

Price: $8.99

Since the Big Bubble popped in 1929, life in the United States hasn't been the same. Hotshot wizards will tell you nothing's really changed, but then again, hotshot wizards aren't looking for honest work in Enid, Oklahoma. No paying jobs at the mill, because zombies will work for nothing. The diner on Main Street is seeing hard times as well, because a lot fewer folks can afford to fly carpets in from miles away. Jack Spivey's just another down-and-out trying to stay alive, doing a little of this and a little of that. Sometimes that means making a few bucks playing ball with the Enid Eagles, against teams from as many as two counties away. And somethimes it means roughing up rival thugs for Big Stu, the guy who calls the shots in Enid. But one day Jack knocks on the door of the person he's supposed to deal with-and realizes that he's not going to do any such thing to the young lady who answers. This means he needs to get out of the reach of Big Stu, who didn't get to where he is by letting defiance go unpunished. Then the House of Daniel comes to town-a brash band of barnstormers who'll take on any team, and whose antics never fail to entertain. Against the odds Jack secures a berth with them. Now they're off to tour an America that's as shot through with magic as it is dead broke. Jack will never be the same-nor will baseball.

Friday Entry One Flew out of work, the fleet flight of Friday before a holiday weekend. Everyone cracks a smile upon stepping out of the concrete and glass coffin of the corporate work week. The motorcycle is quickly gassed and loaded, I leave Washington DC at three-thirty, vowing not to check the time for the rest of the adventure. Adventure, the American adventure of the open road is what I seek. The road, my cameras, and escape. Right turn off of 15th St. NW and I’m motoring past the Washington Monument and the White House. Harleys and clones are already lining the Mall for the annual Memorial remembrance that is Rolling Thunder. I’m soon over the bridge and on I-66 west. I plan on avoiding major highways when at all possible. Preferring scenic byways to drab highways. 66 is a necessary evil to flee the DC metro area as quickly as possible. At the start, 66 is a good quick run, for awhile anyway. Loads of Rolling Thunder riders are heading in 66 eastbound. I keep...

Shopping In America Used To Look Like This
Shopping In America Used To Look Like This

My husband, Jake, will be 83 years old in December, and he can rememebr a time when our country was one people who worked together for it's good, and the good of each other. The current events in Washington really upset him, as he watches all he once knew and loved and believed in being destroyed. He wrote the following about 4 years or so ago, as his sarcastic solution to the problems we were facing then, and he asked me to post it "all over the internet", because he believes these solutions would apply today also. Anyway...here's Jake: The “Cash 4 Clunkers” program appears to have been quite a success – at least as far as stimulating new car sales is concerned. However, most of the trade-ins were sound, high quality, late model pickups and SUV’s that fell just below the gas mileage limit (mainly because they were large and heavy, and were geared accordingly). And the new cars that were bought included many hybrids that run on batteries, hype, and hope. Will the...
