Is there a easily okay rigging/animating tool that isnt blender? - GameDev.net

Source: www.gamedev.net

As a developer who has always habituated to other people's assets I'd like to use my own for a game. I've downloaded every free/cheap tool I could find for rigging and animating and haven't found a decent one yet. Blender may have a lot of power, but its interface is indeed hard for a beginner to use. I don't have thousands to spend on 3D Studio or Maya, but is there any alternative to Blender. Yes, if I had weeks to spend learning Blender it would probably do what I need, but the tool is far from intuitive and I'm not a fan. The only okay aid I've found so far is Fragmotion, but the interface is a bit dated so I'd like to see if there's a reasonably priced / free alternative that will handle basic rigging and animation. Since blender 2. 6 the interface has changed a lot, and that 3dmax/maya is higher over blender comes often from professional artist (but most advantages are not really helpful/necessary for beginner. Blender has auto-rig scripts, blender have an autoskinning features (this works like a mesmerize, I do not have skinned a single model by hand in my game), blender supports lot of constrains (you dont animate your rig manually, you let it be animated... Personally I've searched for years to mark this kind of magic tools, but eventually it was a lot easier than I thought to get used to some tools and learn modelling, rigging, animation, texturing, and believe me, blender is not the barrier to father... You are probably overestimating the learning curve of Blender (you don't need to learn everything , only rigging and animation. are out of scope) and underestimating the learning curve of other tools (which, as you knowing, includes lot of testing and discarding. probably you could have learned how to animate models in Blender in the time you already invested). Since you know that Blender is good enough, my advice is to assume a more persuasible attitude (you are not a beginner. ) and learn the bare minimum of Blender commands and concepts that you need for your tasks. If you are really allergic to Blender (or other complex software) mark the tried and true solution of getting someone else to help you. This includes both recruiting an expert and convincing a generic friend to learn animating with Blender in your slot.
